Europeans come to Iran for infertility treatment

TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (MNA) – An official with Iranian Royan Institute in Tehran says that Hundreds of foreign infertile couples travel to Iran annually for medical care.

Abdulhossein Shahverdi, head of the research institute, noted that prior to regional and operational challenges over the past year to 18 months, Royan accepted more than 500 foreign infertile couples each year. Patients arrive from across the region as well as Europe.

Shahverdi highlighted that adherence to cultural and religious principles, alongside high clinical success rates and strong scientific reputations, drive international patients to Iranian medical centers. He added that the patient demographic includes overseas Iranians who have married abroad or have foreign spouses.

Affordable treatment costs compared to many Western countries have further fueled fertility tourism in Iran over the past two decades.

Despite recent logistical constraints, the institute continues to admit a substantial number of foreign patients, resulting in successful births both within Iran and abroad.
